Thomas Jefferson Uncorked! A Colonial Food and Wine Pairing
This year’s Colonial Christmas kicks off with a preview luncheon, “Thomas Jefferson Uncorked! A Colonial Food and Wine Pairing,” on December 1 at Trump National Golf Club.
The luncheon is sponsored by Investors Savings Bank and hosted by Chris Cree of 56 Degree Wine, Bernardsville, with special guest Christopher Forbes, Vice Chairman of Forbes Inc. Cree, one of only 275 Masters of Wine in the world, will select a Chablis, a red burgundy and a Madeira for the three-course luncheon and discuss Jefferson’s passion for wine, cultivated during his tenure in Europe.
The New York Times wrote :
"In addition to being an architect, archaeologist, astronomer, jurist, musician, natural philosopher, slaveholder and statesman, the author of the Declaration of Independence and the third president of the United States, Thomas Jefferson was the founding wine geek. Most of the founding fathers were deeply fond of good claret and Madeira, but none were as passionate or systematic in their appreciation of the grape as Jefferson, who was utterly compulsive on the subject. " NY Times
An international wine judge and nationally syndicated wine columnist, John Hailman discusses how Jefferson's tastes developed, which wines and foods he preferred at different stages of his life, and how Jefferson became the greatest wine expert of the early American republic.
The luncheon will also feature a “Fab Five” luxury raffle, boutique shopping, holiday tablescapes by Tiffany & Co., Laura Clare Fine Florals, and Classic Home & Garden, available for purchase, as well as live and silent auctions. (see below)
During the live auction, luncheon guests will bid on a spectacular dinner for eight at Trump National Golf Club featuring Chris Cree and John Hailman, international wine judge, nationally syndicated wine columnist and author of Thomas Jefferson on Wine. Hailman details how Jefferson became the greatest wine expert of the early American republic.
