Colonial Christmas is Open for Business

New Online Store for the Friends of Vanderveer House Provides Safe and Secure Credit Card Online Purchases

The Friends of the Jacobus Vanderveer House announced today the launch of a new online store for the Friends of the Jacobus Vanderveer House. The new site is a totally secure online storefront that will accept all major credit cards and ease the ticket purchasing process.

The online storefront was created to ease the process for purchasing Colonial Christmas tickets for the 2011 Colonial Christmas holiday luncheon and a fundraiser cocktail party and reception in early December 2011. "We are continually looking at ways to make it easier support our efforts and people have been asking for the ability to order tickets to our events online," said Brooks Betz, Board Member of the Friends of the Jacobus Vanderveer House. "The Colonial Christmas special events sell out and people wanted an easier way to confirm that they are in!"

While the new online system is the first for the Friends, people who order multiple tickets to the event will still be contacted personally to confirm their ticket purchases. The online ticketing process will provide an email conformation to the purchaser, but the Friends want to also make it possible for one purchaser to give or pass along paid tickets to friends and family. "We still want to personally contact our guests and let them know how much we appreciate their participation and financial support", noted Leslie Mole, President of the Friends of the JVH. "

SSL is the most secure online security available todayThe Online Store for the Friends is a totally secure storefront incorporating the most secure encryption available today. Secure Socket layer delivers 256 bit encryption and encrypts data transferred to and from the store and protects against session hijacking attacks. The same technology is used by Microsoft, Nissan, and TV Guide online businesses.

The store will be used in the future to support donations and other purchasing opportunities," said Betz. "There's a whole host of opportunities that the site can provide but our main interest is to look for ways to make it easier for the public to participate, register, and donate to the many great causes the Friends sponsor."

While tickets and donations are now being accepted via the site, a quick registration, while not required, will facilitate and ease the ordering process.

About the Vanderveer/Knox House & Museum
& the Pluckemin Artillery Cantonment

For over two centuries, the Jacobus Vanderveer House has been at the center of Bedminster Township’s rich and colorful history. The house is the last surviving building in Bedminster associated with the Vanderveer's, a family prominent in Bedminster Township history from its earliest settlement through the mid 19th century.

The Vanderveer house served as headquarters for General Henry Knox during the winter of 1778-79, when the Continental Army artillery was located in the village of Pluckemin during the Revolutionary War's Second Middlebrook Encampment. The house is the only known building still standing that was associated with the Pluckemin Artillery Cantonment. The artillery park and military academy is considered to be the first installation in America to train officers in engineering and artillery and predates the United States Military Academy at West Point (est.1802) by twenty four years.

The Vanderveer family house was later enlarged with two additions in the nineteenth century, remodeled in the twentieth century, and subsequently abandoned. The Township of Bedminster purchased the home and the surrounding area as part of River Road Park in 1989. The home has been restored by The Friends of the Jacobus Vanderveer House, a non-profit group of inspired volunteers dedicated to use the home as a museum and educational center.
